Participants of the 1st European Children's Summit were official welcomed

At ten o' clock the participants were officially welcomed in the city hall of Karlsruhe. The first mayor of Karlsruhe, Harald Denecken, addressed the 80 participants at the age of thirteen to seventeen. He emphasised, how proud he and the citizens of Karlsruhe were to host the first European Children's Summit.

Following the first mayor, the participants were welcomed by Kai Niebert, head of the federal board of directors of the Young Naturefriends Germany. He demonstrated exemplarly how important democracy and the involvement of young people in the political decision-making process were. Moreover, the audience was welcomed by Gert Gosses, the president of the Young Naturefriends Karlsruhe.
Like the motto of this Children's Summit “Children talk, adults listen“, the participants were welcomed by James Connolly (Great Britan) and Odile Podolski (Germany) from the Children's Council.

As expected, the press followed the reception and reported about the opening of the first European Children's Summit nationwide.
