Host City Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe, once the capital of Baden, lies in the south west of Germany, on the northern flank of Baden-Württemberg. Situated adjacent to the mighty river Rhine, the city reaches north west where it meets the border of the Rhineland-Palatinate, and west to France.
The climate is very pleasant - its location in the Rhine plain makes Karlsruhe Germany's second warmest city. Karlsruhe has 275.285 residents (status 31.01.2006), of which 51.2% are female.
Although not yet even 300 years old, Karlsruhe has a rich tradition as a city of science, research and high-tech. Each of the two most outstanding inventions were brain-child of Karlsruhe citizens: Karl Benz, born in the Mühlburg district, brought us the motor car, and Baron von Drais the "Draisienne hobby horse", the predecessor of the bicycle.
Karlsruhe is the home of world champions, Olymic winners, nation league players and sport legends. Outstanding sporting venues such as the Europahalle, the Wildpark stadium and the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre's multipurpose arena are frequent venues for top acts performing before enthusiastic Karlsruhe audiences.
With more then 800 hectares of public parks and greens, Karlsruhe offers an abundance of islands of tranquillity and relaxation second to none in the whole of Germany. Immerse yourself in the city of green.
